After initially applying for a frontend position, I was offered the opportunity to work backend development so I taught myself the required skills. I worked for eTech for almost 2 years, during the school year I worked part-time and during the summer I worked full-time. During this time, I utilized frontend and backend skills to help support, test, improve, and create websites for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama. We utilized an Agile working environment as well as created documentation and a systematic approach to website development that was not present before I arrived.
Although my position was initially backend development, it was evident that I had to interact with every part of the web applications. Therefore, my skills with HTML, CSS, and Javascript greatly improved. I also was able to learn about good practices with version control with git. Finally, I began learning about deployment strategies as well as learning how to utilize frameworks as well as implementing tested and approved libraries. I created variations of UML diagrams for the websites as well as red team vs blue team security testing and repairing.
