Final project within a social media data analysis course. The project focuses on analyzing the difference in social media traction of disaster related events to show if global attention is spread equally. By utilizing Twitter API as well as python scripting we were able to gather a decent amount of data to demonstrate that social media tends to focus primarily on areas of high interest than those facing more devestation with the disaster.
One of the primarily skills utilized in this project was Python. Python was used to pull tweets from twitter using the Twitter API. Java was used with Weka and SVM's to tag the data pulled from twitter. Finally, the need to research the event and prior technology was essential to this project. Along with presenting a presentable proposal with proper documentation.
